Yet, a few hours later, when she entered his house and saw the hundreds of beautiful silk shirts and other expensive commodities, she shed tears of joy. Similarly, when she first realizes that Gatsby was the man she once loved, she was not extremely excited to see him. On the day of her wedding, she was screaming and crying, desperate to leave, but as soon as she got the $350,000 pearls, she happily married him. Tom is extremely wealthy, which is why Daisy first fell in love with him. Daisy’s sole object of desire is wealth and money. Even though she appears to be emotionally torn, it is not the love for Gatsby that causes her dilemma. She uses her best friend Jordan Baker as well as her cousin Nick Carraway to develop a close relationship with Gatsby. Despite being married to the wealthy Tom Buchanan, she is torn internally due to her love for Jay Gatsby. Daisy, while being an essential character to the novel, is a flat character since she never changes throughout the course of the story.
